Hi Thebruce,
how does the new codex pages work. Some of the German translations are on an extra page and some are also inserted automatically, some not. Who is intended to copy the things? Will you do this? AUZ505 14:19, 27 March 2008 (MST)

yeah I might fix up the templating a bit. Look for the page templates section in the sidebar, and use the Artifact content wikicode for the new artifact pages. Don't worry about creating the links to them - that's handled by the templating automatically. I'll adjust the templates so the page labelling is a little clearer in the full lists. --Thebruce 14:30, 27 March 2008 (MST)

One suggestion. How about a new timeline icon, like "blog", for "missions". Than we can also update on the timeline when new missions are assigned. Actually I will do this with the "update" icon, but I would prefer a special one AUZ505 03:49, 5 April 2008 (MST)

good idea, i'll get that up today sometime --Thebruce 05:59, 5 April 2008 (MST)

Discussions about page moves/merges should be kept on the pages in question, right? Rather than a generic page we can create for overall wiki discussions? Only asking with the number of new contributors. Kinda feels like sometimes things are in multiple places. For example, we have Monica still has postcard notes on it, but has no link to her pictures or postcards, Monica's_photos which also has shots of the newer postcards in it and then translations, Jorge's_Postcard which has copies of text the same as translations from Diego's email. I guess this just stood out as one example where I think the same text/images are being copied in multiple places when either it doesn't need to be, or needs to be linked better between them. I think I might try to tackle their reorg, but I wanted a place to discuss it. Weezel 09:51, 7 April 2008 (MST)

I was trying to make all the codex page templates uniform so that everything flowed through the templates the right way, that way if a template changed for layout, everything else flowed with it. I completed the first pass and then started cleaning up a little more, and I realized that the later pages are actually doing it correctly by passing it to the Template:ArtifactTemplate which in turn passes it to the Interaction template, rather than the InteractionTemplate directly. I didn't want to have some one way and some the other way, but now I realized that if they are supposed to flow into ArtifactTemplate first, it means editing every single language translation. I guess the nice thing about the template is it makes sure you don't typo the image name, or forget the clearall etc.

I think I'm going to compromise and only reverse the holding pages to the ArtifactTemplate and leave the others alone. It only becomes an issue if the InteractionTemplate gets changed so it may just be wasted work. Weezel 13:10, 20 April 2008 (MST)

Yeah, what happened is that I was working from the oldest to the newest.. so as I came across pages that were missing/misformed, I used the templating from the early pages that were correct. It wasn't until I got into the 16+ chapters that the ArtifactTemplate was being used, and I didn't realize what it was at first until I had changed a few, and then I traced the wikicode and understood it... So I reverted the few changes that I made, and then had a big update fest today to fix all the holding pages. At the very least, that will ensure that any new translations (even for old chapters) will follow the new template. It'd be a whole lotta work to update every existing template. However, I still might be inspired to do that one chapter at a time. There are some buggy translation templates out there right now. You can tell when you look at a chapter, or the codex by language, and there isn't an [Edit] button next to the section. So you have to open the page, and edit it that way. Happened on alot of English pages. However, if you redo the text to use the new Template, the edit button comes back.. so I'm sure its a simple parsing issue with the HTML. It doesn't happen to all the old templating, just some of it. I think you followed me on all that. :P Weezel 21:22, 20 April 2008 (MST)

Np. It was certainly easier this way, at least in the short term. I'm just tackling one language at a time in 'language view', so I can see what the offending ones are easily.. I'm supposed to working on this database for work, but I'm taking my lunch break.. *snicker* Weezel 10:05, 21 April 2008 (MST)

What happened to the idea to create a special "icon" for the missions, like the blog/update/meta/dialog icon, for the timeline? AUZ505 13:36, 5 May 2008 (MST)

You need a sandbox to play in! That's alot of minor edits in a row as you kept tweaking the contrib template. *laugh* Thanks for jumping into it and whacking the HTML around until it cooperated. Sorry I didn't spend as much time on the design aesthetic as I should have. My plan was to simply have maybe a translator/contributor of the month kinda thing. I was really just looking at Unagi and Khaos' contributions and wanted to thank them for all the translations, since we were woefully missing of them. I don't plan on going award happy. Though if you want to award the fuzzy duck and bath towel awards, that's up to you. Weezel 09:02, 7 May 2008 (MST)

Well I *was* going to skip the talk page and send you a tweet, but Twitter decided to go AWOL again. Wikipedia has a special page that allows checking of parsed wikitext for templates.. maybe that could be used to test? [1] Didn't look it too closely. Weezel 09:11, 7 May 2008 (MST)

You're welcome to call us machines, but you can't give me an award back that I just created for you! That's double dipping! (even if you did fix the template to make it look prettier on your own page). There's a certain amount of buffer time needed! I'm going to force you to make your own image, your own template, and waste more time when we should both be working.. moohahahaha.. p.s. I see Auz's note about the special icon for the missions, you wanna nail that, or you want me to do it? Weezel 09:14, 7 May 2008 (MST)

Oh btw, here's what I was looking for earlier and couldn't find Barnstars in relation to User Pages. Would have been nice to see how they wrote those templates as a starting point, instead of the blinders on test method I used. p.s. feel free to delete these last few chats after you read them. Regarding the "possible Theo members": Why is Diego suspected to be a membr? Have you mixed it up with Markus? AUZ505 00:30, 13 May 2008 (MST)
