Ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, the United States basketball squad will play against Team GB in Manchester and, 20 years on from the 1992 Dream Team, against Spain in Barcelona.

The US will play two exhibition games in the United States — against the Dominican Republic on July 12 in Las Vegas and against Brazil on July 16 in Washington, D.C. before the team departs for Europe.

The team will then play Great Britain on July 19 in Manchester, Argentina on July 22 in Barcelona, followed by Spain on July 24 in the same city.

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said: "We have again scheduled an extremely challenging lineup of exhibition opponents for our USA Men's National Team. In addition to playing world powers Spain and Argentina, the team will also face FIBA Americas powers Brazil and the Dominican Republic. Add in what I'm sure will be a very competitive game in Manchester versus Great Britain, and we have an exciting tour schedule we believe will help get our team as best prepared as possible for the summer."

It will be the 20th anniversary of the USA's first Dream Team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and featured Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley.

The US head to London as defending champions and firm favorites, with Spain considered Europe's best hope of upsetting the all-star American squad. Spain are ranked number two in the world by FIBA, and Argentina are number three in the rankings.

Detroit Piston's Ben Gordon has confirmed his intention to play for Great Britain at the Olympics.

Gordon, who played for the US at the 2003 Pan American Games, has been verbally committed to Chris Finch's team for the past few summers, but is yet to pull on a GB jersey.

He withdrew from the 2009 EuroBasket squad to concentrate on the Pistons having just signed as a free agent from Chicago, and then sat out last year's tournament to be with his wife for the birth of their child.

London-born Gordon told the Daily Mirror: "I am playing in the summer and I'm really excited about it.

"I'm looking forward to the Olympics. I've got a lot of family there so it will be nice to see them and it will be a great competition with us really looking to be the surprise team. We're looking to win the gold medal, that's the ultimate goal.

"Although realistically we'll be aiming to win as many games as possible. It's hard to predict at this stage but we'll look to go out there and compete every night."

Britain have two NBA players, Gordon and his former team-mate in Chicago, Luol Deng.

The provisional 2012 USA squad for the Games is: LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland Trail Blazers); Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks); Chauncey Billups (Los Angeles Clippers); Chris Bosh (Miami Heat); Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers); Tyson Chandler (New York Knicks); Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder); Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies); Eric Gordon (New Orleans Hornets); Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers); Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic); Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia 76ers); LeBron James (Miami Heat); Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves); Lamar Odom (Dallas Mavericks); Chris Paul (Los Angeles Clippers); Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls); Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat); Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City Thunder); and Deron Williams (New Jersey Nets).
